Mirrorless Camera Prints - What to Know

Mirrorless cameras have gained enormous popularity among both amateur and professional photographers. They combine compact dimensions with image quality that just a few years ago was reserved for heavy DSLRs. The files they produce have high resolution and a wide tonal range, which translates into excellent results when developing.

File Format Matters

Most mirrorless cameras allow saving photos in RAW format, which provides enormous editing possibilities before developing. However, it is worth remembering that to order prints you need a file in JPEG or TIFF format. After editing in software such as Lightroom or Capture One, it is best to export the photo at maximum quality without additional compression. This way, premium prints will retain the full detail and natural colour palette captured by the camera sensor.

Resolution and Print Size

Modern mirrorless cameras offer sensors ranging from 20 to over 60 megapixels. Even the lower-end models produce files sufficient for developing at 30x40 cm without visible loss of sharpness. With higher resolutions you can comfortably order enlargements and even XXL wall prints. The key, however, is that the photo should be well-framed and sharp at the shooting stage, because no software can fix a blurry frame.

It is also worth paying attention to the colour profile. Mirrorless cameras often allow you to set the Adobe RGB colour space, which is wider than the standard sRGB. When ordering prints, it is best to stick with sRGB, as this is the standard accepted by most photo laboratories. The conversion can be done when exporting the file. In our prints selection you will find various formats and paper types that will help bring out the best in your photos.

Finally, a small but important tip. Before ordering prints, it is worth displaying the photo on a monitor at 100% scale and checking whether sharpness is sufficient and digital noise is not too visible. Mirrorless cameras handle noise better and better, but photos taken at very high ISO may look worse when developed than on screen. A quick check will save disappointment and let you enjoy prints that truly reflect what you saw through the viewfinder.
