A newborn session is one of those events that parents return to for the rest of their lives. Tiny hands, closed eyes, peaceful sleep in a swaddle - these frames hold enormous sentimental value and deserve to exist not only on a hard drive but above all in printed form. Properly preparing the photos for printing ensures that the prints capture the warmth and tenderness of those first days.
Selecting photos and adjusting colours
From a newborn session, the photographer usually delivers anywhere from a dozen to several dozen photos. Not all of them need to be printed - it is worth selecting those that best capture the character of the baby and the emotions of the family. Photos showing details - tiny fingers, little feet, the profile of a face - beautifully complement full-figure portraits. When it comes to colour, it is worth paying attention to the newborn's skin tones, which tend to be gently pink or warm. If the photos have already been edited by the photographer, they usually do not require additional correction. However, if you are editing them yourself, it is better to avoid overly strong filters and try to preserve natural tones.
Which paper and format to choose
Newborn photos look exceptional on matte paper, which gives them softness and emphasises the calm atmosphere of the shot. Premium prints are a good choice for this type of photography, because the higher print quality better reproduces subtle tonal transitions and the delicate textures of fabrics, blankets, and knits in which the baby is wrapped. As for format, it is worth opting for at least a few larger prints - 15x21 or 20x30 - which will look impressive in a frame on the wall or on a chest of drawers in the baby's room.
In addition to larger formats, it is also worth ordering a set of smaller prints that can be given to grandparents or close family friends. A small-format photo ends up in a wallet, on a fridge, or in a desk frame at work, and accompanies loved ones every day. For many grandparents, a small print with their grandchild is one of the most precious gifts they can receive.
Printed photos from a newborn session have one more important advantage - they survive regardless of technology. Hard drives fail, cloud services change their terms, phones get lost. A print on good-quality paper can sit in an album for decades without losing any of its beauty. This is especially worth thinking about with such special photos, because in twenty years, when the child is grown up, those prints will take on an entirely new meaning.
